ChiTransit: CTA Bus and Train Tracker for Chicago App Reviews

No Frills, no Metra

Works well for buses and Ls, but it lacks Metra, which is also a major Chi transporter. All in all well worth the price though.

Consistently Wrong

Overestimates the time II will take for the bus to arrive. I have started to look at the map to see the exact location of the bus rather than rely on the time given by the app. If the app says "4 minutes," that means its at the bus stop. If it says "7 minutes," the bus is about 2.5 blocks away. If I forget and rely on the app, I miss the bus. Im going to try a new app.

It doesnt work

Ive had it for a week and a half and I havent been able to get it to work yet. It crashes the second you hit a button.

Its APPLEs FAULT, not Flying Cranes

The app, actually, is AWESOME! APPLE broke the app when they designed iOS4. I have a certifiable statement from the developers. They submitted updates to Apple THREE (3) weeks ago, but Apple too busy fixing their Microsoft-style flubs to apparently cate (my view, based on research and not necessarily the opinion of Flying Cranes management or staff!). Suggest you download it anyway, because youll be alerted to the update and will be able to re-load for free!

finally!

well, ive been waiting a long time for the update for this app for ios4. i have to say, i wasnt disappointed. the app does exactly what it says it does, and while i havent had it long, i havent found any problems with it so far. the bus and train times are accurate so far, and i love having both in one app. it works really well in conjunction with maps and compass if you want to figure out your travel plans. the one star reviews on here mostly seem to be related to crashes after the release of ios4. now that it works, i think the app will get the ratings it deserves. i love it so far.

Favorites?

This app works fine, but it would be nice if instead of or in addition to "recent stops" it had a place where you could add favorite stops. I find it irritating that pretty much every day I have to search for the exact same bus stops to get to and from work.

Crashes very often

I have bought this software basing on rating and it seems to be wrong decision. I was using it 5 minutes and it crashes 3 times. The other problem I noticed: it does not recognize all bus stops. I see a bus stop on a map but its disabled for selection and is missing in list. As an example you can try Jackson/Franklin bus stop. The idea is good, but implementation is raw. Will wait for updates.

Fix it please

Just purchased the app today and it has crashed about 7 times. I believe the cause is using the map function as accessing the location function or map has cause a crash every try except once. The coolest part is the combo of train and bus data. I will stick with it as my dollar is gone but if you want a polished app go for the bus app. The train info could be replaced with a pdf that you update... the app gives you an eta in mins if you cant subtract :).Two stars reflects the apps behavior after using it for 30 mins or so

Almost unbearable.

I bought this app to replace Buster because I liked the icon better. Okay, so, Im shallow. What a mistake. The App is painfully slow to update arrival times, and refuses to update your current location - unless you completely kill it and relaunch. Luckily, the App crashes so frequently, that a manual relaunch is rarely necessary. Dont be as foolish as I was - look elsewhere for your CTA needs.

Love it!

I have iPhone 4 and it works perfectly! Im able to time myself to make the train in at 5am! Has not crashed on me once. Just wish u could see where the train was at like bustracker and it would be nice to have a favorites!

Map Crash!!

On my 3GS it crashes every single time I try to open the maps. Please fix or refund!

Finally!

After showing up late to one too many appointments due to the recent budget cuts at the CTA, I finally decided to buy an app with Chicago transit schedules. Boy did I pick a good one! Not only does Chi Transit feature bus AND train schedules, it is also incredibly accurate! I am still fairly new to the City, so being able to find the nearest bus stop at all times has been another incredibly useful feature of this app.

Crash on Maps

Every single time on my 3GS with iOS 4. Useful? No.

Two major tweaks from the best cta app

1. Always crashes when going to nearest stop map on my 3GS (even with several resets) 2. Needs a favorites/star option, everyone has 3-5 stops they use, recent stops tab resets too often to be useful. Other than that, its the best cta bus tracker with great integration of maps and train schedules too, search bars are sweet. Will change to 5 stars once errors are fixed :)

Useful in concept

Execution flawed. Good interface, easy to navigate, etc. But times are off. Not a CTA problem, since the CTA tracker site is accurate. Tonite, my train was purportedly arriving in "three minutes" as I waited on platform. It then showed "now" and presumably came and went in front of me without my noticing since it then spooled to the next one. With trains coming every 8 minutes or so, a 3-4 minute deviation renders it useless. UPDATE January 24 2011. Hasnt been right within 8-9 minutes yet, and lists trains that dont arrive. Not worthwhile.

Good CTA app, BUT... (Updated review)

So I have been using this app for several months now, and while it is good, it definitely needs an update. As others have mentioned, a "favorites" tab would make navigation much quicker. But more than that, this app crashes a LOT. Nearly every time I use it, it hangs and ends up crashing. It has resulted in me missing a bus more than a few times. Please, please give us an update! Old Review: I looked around for a while before deciding on ChiTransit. So far, Im happy with this little guy. Its fast, hasnt crashed on me, and is pretty darn accurate. My big wish, echoed by others, is to have a "favorites" section for stops. The app never remembers "recents." But all in all, very good app.

Sometimes inaccurate

The app works for the most part, but when if claims there arent any buses coming, BEWARE. Its happened multiple time when it says there arent buses and then after Ive decided to walk, I see one drive by!!! Very annoying.

Not bad

Pros Automatically refreshes (others dont) Pretty accurate in my experience Cons Like others said doesnt remember recent stops Randomly hangs when I click on a bus to see its location on the map If a stop has multiple buses, it will sometimes only show the route you selected, making you select another bus for the same stop (example, if you are wanting to know if the 36 or 22 will be coming sooner, you must select each stop separately) I agree with the others, an update is long overdue!

Abandoned App?

I shouldve paid attention to the date this app was last updated. July 13th, 2010. Its been over a year. Money burned, and lesson learned. This app would be great if 1.) The recent stops would be retained. They are saved but after some time, they get cleared. I dislike having to add stops again and again. 2.) The app crashes sporadically. Not sure why. Restarting phone and force quitting app do not help. 3.) Developer would make updates based on feedback. 4.) Sent developer an email via their web site, have not received a response. I have switched over to using Transit Stop free and have no complaints so far.

Crap

The only thing I could get this app to do on a regular basis was crash. Its a great idea, just executed poorly. Save your money.
