ChiTransit is finally here to address Chicagoans desire for a simpler, yet more robust CTA app. There are many apps out there that deal with the bus lines, GPS locations and schedules. None, until now, have combined both a GPS bus tracker with GPS CTA L train tracker. The simple interface gives you access want quickly and accurately.

Features include:

• All CTA Bus lines, GPS tracking using maps
• CTA L Train tracking for all 8 lines.
• Nearest bus stops to your current position with map interface.
• Recently viewed stop list on startup allows you to quickly access your favorite CTA Bus and Train locations.

Pros and cons of ChiTransit: CTA Bus and Train Tracker for Chicago app for iPhone and iPad

ChiTransit: CTA Bus and Train Tracker for Chicago app good for

Works well for buses and Ls, but it lacks Metra, which is also a major Chi transporter. All in all well worth the price though.
The app, actually, is AWESOME! APPLE broke the app when they designed iOS4. I have a certifiable statement from the developers. They submitted updates to Apple THREE (3) weeks ago, but Apple too busy fixing their Microsoft-style flubs to apparently cate (my view, based on research and not necessarily the opinion of Flying Cranes management or staff!). Suggest you download it anyway, because youll be alerted to the update and will be able to re-load for free!
well, ive been waiting a long time for the update for this app for ios4. i have to say, i wasnt disappointed. the app does exactly what it says it does, and while i havent had it long, i havent found any problems with it so far. the bus and train times are accurate so far, and i love having both in one app. it works really well in conjunction with maps and compass if you want to figure out your travel plans. the one star reviews on here mostly seem to be related to crashes after the release of ios4. now that it works, i think the app will get the ratings it deserves. i love it so far.
I have iPhone 4 and it works perfectly! Im able to time myself to make the train in at 5am! Has not crashed on me once. Just wish u could see where the train was at like bustracker and it would be nice to have a favorites!
After showing up late to one too many appointments due to the recent budget cuts at the CTA, I finally decided to buy an app with Chicago transit schedules. Boy did I pick a good one! Not only does Chi Transit feature bus AND train schedules, it is also incredibly accurate! I am still fairly new to the City, so being able to find the nearest bus stop at all times has been another incredibly useful feature of this app.
Its just quick and simple. Can literally check a favorite bus or train time in 5 seconds.

Some bad moments

Overestimates the time II will take for the bus to arrive. I have started to look at the map to see the exact location of the bus rather than rely on the time given by the app. If the app says "4 minutes," that means its at the bus stop. If it says "7 minutes," the bus is about 2.5 blocks away. If I forget and rely on the app, I miss the bus. Im going to try a new app.
Ive had it for a week and a half and I havent been able to get it to work yet. It crashes the second you hit a button.
I have bought this software basing on rating and it seems to be wrong decision. I was using it 5 minutes and it crashes 3 times. The other problem I noticed: it does not recognize all bus stops. I see a bus stop on a map but its disabled for selection and is missing in list. As an example you can try Jackson/Franklin bus stop. The idea is good, but implementation is raw. Will wait for updates.
Just purchased the app today and it has crashed about 7 times. I believe the cause is using the map function as accessing the location function or map has cause a crash every try except once. The coolest part is the combo of train and bus data. I will stick with it as my dollar is gone but if you want a polished app go for the bus app. The train info could be replaced with a pdf that you update... the app gives you an eta in mins if you cant subtract :).Two stars reflects the apps behavior after using it for 30 mins or so
I bought this app to replace Buster because I liked the icon better. Okay, so, Im shallow. What a mistake. The App is painfully slow to update arrival times, and refuses to update your current location - unless you completely kill it and relaunch. Luckily, the App crashes so frequently, that a manual relaunch is rarely necessary. Dont be as foolish as I was - look elsewhere for your CTA needs.
On my 3GS it crashes every single time I try to open the maps. Please fix or refund!
